A friend of mine recently wrote concerning the resurrection account in John 20. The disciples were satisfied with the evidence (empty tomb, discarded linen) and returned to their homes. However, Mary was not content to go home with mere evidence. She stayed, waiting to encounter Jesus for herself. She was not even content to go home when she then encountered angels. She waited to encounter Jesus.

Lord, forgive the church for being content to return to our homes having not stayed to encounter You. Stir up a hunger within us for encounter and transformation. Stir up within us a hunger and thirsting after You.

David,
I remember many nights, as a child and teenager, of being at the church well past 11:00 p.m.

It has been over 30 years since I have seen it. Today a one hour service is about all we can handle, and we are being taught that if you want your church to grow, restrict it to an hour.
