Conviction of the Holy Ghost

Posted on Friday 20 April 2007

Wow! What a week!

We concluded wonderful meetings in Graysville Tennessee at the Graysville Church of God. Pastor Jimmy and Rene Talley are being used by God to transform an entire community!

There were people in every service walk the aisle and confess Jesus Christ as their Savior! Many were filled with the Holy Ghost, but also, many were reminded why we are a Full Gospel people: the Power of the Holy Ghost is still real!

I noticed in every service, at every altar call as the conviction began to move among the congregation, young people and children were immediately the first to raise their hands! I sensed the Lord whisper to me, “…don’t listen to or watch adults and their interpretation as to what I am doing; watch the children!”

Isn’t that what Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 says? When the Holy Spirit is poured our the first responders are young people and children!

The reason more adults do not sense the convicting power of the Holy Ghost is they have sat in service after service while He has moved among people and resisted His call to come closer…so He moves on to deal with people who will respond to Him!

God help us not to become so familiar with your Presence we begin to despise Your moving among us!

The Holy Ghost will always move from where he’s tolerated to where he’s celebrated.

    AMEN!

And I’ve been wondering quite a bit lately….

Why would spend so much time begging for Him to come…and when He (Holy Spirit) shows up, we won’t let Him do what He came to do?

I also don’t understand something else; I’ve had two different pastors (one in AL one in TN) tell me other pastors have told them “altar calls, or going to the altar is for weak minded people…”

    what’s up with that?

I’m a pastor and would never say that! I don’t know what they’re thinking. I think it’s symptomatic of us putting human intellect (or lack thereof) on the throne instead of God. We shouldn’t use altar calls as a technique, nor should we avoid them as one. FWIW, I lean toward opening the altars for seeking or ministry but haven’t often been moved to do a traditional altar call for salvation (like I responded to in a SBC years ago).

Wow Pentecostal churches built on alter calls are questioning them, while Rev.Schuller has one at the Crystal Cathedral? Things are already getting turned upside down.

You are right! The minute we get comfortable enough doing something that we can do it automation like (i.e., brain dead and callous hearted), God pulls the rug out from under us and we have to tune our ears into the Holy Spirit again!
