Pam and I had the opportunity this week to travel to Baltimore, Maryland to visit with out daughter and son-in-law who live in D.C. While we walked around Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the Holy Spirit kept whispering to my heart, “go back to basics!”
We are truly living in times of great transition! God gave me the transition message and has had me preaching it for the last four year repeatedly! Yet only in the last several months have I realized how powerfully the Lord is trying to transition me!
I read this morning in 1 Samuel 10:6 where Saul was called out by Samuel to be the first king of Israel. One point Samuel made to Saul was when a certain thing took place, the Spirit of God would come on him and he would “…be changed into another man…”
That’s the main point in getting back to basics: that we would acknowledge our need for the Holy Spirit! Then allowing Him to transition us away from all the clutter we have created in order to be the next most successful preacher on the planet!
We’ve learned how to preach. We’ve learned how to lead people where we want them to go. We’ve learned how to build huge monuments to ourselves and our denominations. We’ve learned how to lead board meetings and manipulate people into doing thing we want them to do! (Yes, I said it!) Yet in reality, someone has to be honest and say the truth! We can’t expect people to be truly “changed into another man/woman” if we are not allowing Jesus to change us into whom HE wants us to be!!!
Fall in love with Jesus all over again!
Fall in love with His Word!
Fall in love with His Presence!
In His Presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand there are pleasures forevermore!
Psalms 16:11
Awesomely cool! I’m glad you said it. May God have his way.
David,
I was just teaching a group of adults about staying with the fundamentals last week. My football coach in High School drilled us in fundamentals, and we had a winning season. While other teams were trying the fancy professional plays, we just stuck to the basics and obtained the wins.
Awesome word. Sometimes we need to get back to the elementary things in the faith inorder to graduate to a new level in Him. Good word.
Yet in reality, someone has to be honest and say the truth! We can’t expect people to be truly “changed into another man/woman” if we are not allowing Jesus to change us into whom HE wants us to be!!!
Thats the question I ask myself alot. Have I truly changed and am I who He wants me to be?
To be honest, Im afraid of the answer I might get.
I am praying God changes me in such a way, no one will know who I am…but Jesus!
Wow, this post convicted me also. Thanks David
